The 40's was a time of war and American movies created a glamorous escape from the lack of fabric and nylons available. This movie does recognize the hard times while being deliciously over the top.
Hayworth was the sex symbol of the 1940's. She performed in 61 movies within 37 years. Directors loved her willingness to change hair color, which she did 8 times. Hayworth began a manicure trend, causing women to wear their nails long and red.

Rita Hayworth lived and worked at a time when Hollywood had a pantheon of fascinating stars - but she really stands out from the rest of them. Her artistry is beautiful. Her dancing is timeless. In this film, when she dance with Gene Kelly, she is better than him.
